Twelve years ago, our park was just a redundant strawberry field. Today, it stands proudly as one of Somerset’s leading luxury holiday parks — a transformation we’re incredibly proud of.
To mark this milestone, we’re taking a trip down memory lane, revisiting the key moments, milestones, and memories that have shaped Strawberryfield Park into the special place it is today. Join us as we look back at the journey that brought us here.
It’s incredible to look back at where it all began. Our first phase of development marked the start of turning empty fields into the luxurious, welcoming space that our guests enjoy today.
From these early beginnings, each phase of development added new accommodation, facilities, and touches that transformed the site into the destination it is now.
Cheddar isn’t just famous for its cheese — it has a rich history of strawberry cultivation. Fields like ours once produced bountiful crops that fed local markets and beyond. The fertile soil and temperate climate made the area perfect for strawberries, and these fields were once a defining feature of the Cheddar landscape.

No story about Cheddar’s strawberry fields would be complete without mentioning the Strawberry Line. This historic railway played a vital role in the area’s agricultural past, linking strawberry farms with markets across Somerset and beyond.
The Strawberry Line originally ran from Yatton to Cheddar, carrying not only local strawberries but also other produce, milk, and goods. During the peak of the strawberry season, the line would be bustling with fruit crates ready to be transported to cities where local strawberries were in high demand. For many families in Cheddar, the railway was more than just transport — it was a lifeline for livelihoods and a symbol of the community’s hard work.
Even today, the Strawberry Line remains a point of pride for the region. The original railway track has been transformed into a scenic walking and cycling route, preserving a tangible link to the past. Visitors can explore the route, taking in the countryside that once supported the thriving strawberry industry and imagining the countless crates of fruit that travelled along the tracks.
For Strawberryfield Park, the Strawberry Line is a special reminder of the site’s roots. What was once a simple strawberry field served a much larger network, connecting Cheddar to the wider region. Today, our park stands as a modern, luxurious space, but the heritage of the land and its role in the community lives on — from strawberries to staycations, the story continues.
Over the past 12 years, Strawberryfield Park has grown in both size and reputation. Some key milestones include:
2012: The first phase of development — turning the redundant strawberry field into our first guest accommodations. Peppers Lodge was first!
2018: Expansion began as we introduced phase 2 of Strawberryfield Park – Orchard Lane as you know it.
2025: Celebrating 12 years with a thriving park that has been awarded Visit England’s 5* award for 5 years running.
