Fourteen years ago, Strawberryfield Park was a very different place.
There were no luxury lodges, no team of more than 20, and certainly no guests soaking in hot tubs beneath the Somerset sky. There was simply a piece of land that had once been a working strawberry field, an idea and a huge amount of hard work.
In 2012, owner Mike bought the land. The strawberry field was no longer in operation, but its history would live on in the name of what came next: Strawberryfield Park.
And so the journey began…
The first lodge arrived on site in 2012.
Peppers Lodge was the very first lodge at Strawberryfield Park and marked the beginning of what would eventually become a collection of 24 luxury lodges in Cheddar, Somerset.
There is a little story behind the name, too. Peppers was named after Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles — one of Mike’s favourite albums.
At the time, it was just one lodge on a piece of former strawberry-growing land. But the foundations of Strawberryfield Park had been laid.
Within a few years, it was time for the first expansion.
A further 12 luxury lodges were added to create The Avenue, transforming Strawberryfield Park from a single-lodge operation into an established luxury lodge destination.
But the park continued to evolve.
Around six years later, the next phase began with the creation of Orchard Lane. Seven luxury lodges were added initially, followed a few years later by the final four.
It wasn’t an overnight transformation. Strawberryfield Park grew gradually, with each stage bringing something new to the site.
Once the final four lodges were in place, the park had reached the 24 luxury lodge collection that guests know today.
The lodges weren’t the only thing that grew.
When Mike first started Strawberryfield Park, it was very much a one-man operation. Today, the business has grown into a team of more than 20 merry men and women, all playing their part in looking after the park and its guests.
And despite that growth, Strawberryfield Park remains family owned and run by Mike and his son, Tom.
That independent, family-run approach remains an important part of the business. There isn’t a large corporate operation behind the scenes; there are real people who care about the park, the team and the experience guests have when they stay.
Today, Strawberryfield Park is home to 24 bespoke luxury lodges in Somerset, each individually designed with its own layout, style and character.
The aim has always been to create a collection where there is something to suit almost everyone.
Some lodges are ideal for couples looking for a romantic escape, while others offer family-friendly layouts and plenty of space to enjoy time together. Across the collection, you’ll find features including starlit courtyards, log burners, Jacuzzi baths and open-plan living spaces, alongside thoughtful interiors designed to make your stay feel special.
There is, however, one feature every lodge has in common: a private hot tub and private decking area.
That privacy is central to the Strawberryfield Park experience.
There are no communal hubs or shared leisure facilities. Instead, each lodge is a fully equipped self-catering space where guests can settle in, close the door and enjoy their own surroundings at their own pace.
It’s a place for those who prefer the finer things in life — without the crowds.
You can spend your days exploring Cheddar Gorge, the Mendip Hills and the wider Somerset countryside, before returning to your own lodge for a private soak in the hot tub.
Or you can stay in. Light the log burner. Run the Jacuzzi bath. Pour a glass of wine. Put your feet up.
There is no pressure to do anything other than enjoy your time away.
Over the years, Strawberryfield Park has been fortunate to receive some wonderful recognition for the experience we offer.
In 2016, the park was awarded Jacuzzi Holiday Park of the Year for EMEA, an achievement that remains a particularly proud moment in our history.
We’ve also consistently received 5-star Gold recognition through VisitEngland inspections, with our most recent inspection just a few months ago once again awarding Strawberryfield Park 5-star Gold status.
For the past three years running, we’ve also been delighted to receive Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice recognition.
These awards and accolades are something we’re proud of, but there is another measure of success that means just as much … perhaps even more.
In 2026 so far around 40% of our bookings have come from returning guests. Those that have stayed before, loved it, and booked to come back.
For a small, independent business, that’s something we’re incredibly proud of.
Some guests have been returning for years, making Strawberryfield Park part of their own holiday traditions and special occasions.
And this year, five sets of guests are approaching their 20th stay.
Twenty. Stays.
That’s quite a compliment.
It’s wonderful to know that people don’t simply enjoy their time here; they choose to come back and experience it again.
Looking back, the journey from that first lodge in 2012 to the Strawberryfield Park of today is quite remarkable.
A former strawberry field became home to Peppers Lodge.
Peppers became The Avenue.
The Avenue was followed by Orchard Lane.
One pair of hands became a team of more than 20.
And a single lodge became a collection of 24 individually designed luxury lodges, each offering guests their own private space to relax, unwind and enjoy a little bit of Somerset.
Through all those changes, Strawberryfield Park has remained a family-owned business, with Mike and Tom continuing to run the park and shape its future.
Most importantly, it has become a place where people come to celebrate, reconnect, explore, relax and simply take a little time away from everyday life.
Fourteen years, countless stays, and many happy memories.
From one former strawberry field to the luxury lodges in Somerset we are today, Strawberryfield Park has come a long way.
And there’s still plenty more to come.
