Just under an hour’s drive from the park, you can join the railway at Bishops Lydeard, near Taunton, and begin a scenic journey through the heart of Somerset countryside.
The West Somerset Railway is one of the UK’s most celebrated heritage railways, offering a 20-mile journey through stunning countryside, from Bishops Lydeard to the seaside town of Minehead.
Originally part of the Great Western Railway network, the line has been lovingly preserved to keep alive the golden age of rail travel. Today, visitors can experience the charm of heritage steam and diesel trains while travelling through a landscape of rolling hills, villages, farmland and coastline.
Your adventure begins at Bishops Lydeard station, a beautifully restored starting point that immediately sets the scene for a nostalgic day out.
As the train leaves the station, the route winds through the Somerset countryside towards the Quantock Hills, passing through pretty villages and peaceful rural landscapes.
